Note: this is a re-post as I had to restore from backup, comments were lost, sorry. :(
So, I've had complaints recently that I haven't updated the site in awhile. Pfui on you.
First - Mali had an ALP of 600, which is now down to 270. It should be somewhere in the range of 20-100. She needs 2 more weeks of Clavamox and hopefully that'll be normal. Her problem kidneys? Just fine. Am I frustrated? You bloody well bet I'm frustrated!
A few months ago I dated a man with whom, as my readers know, things did not work out. Part of the reason for that was his inability to keep dates and appointments with me. He and I hadn't spoken for several months and I contacted him to see how he was doing. We've been chatting and last night we agreed to meet for breakfast today - 10am, at IHOP. Around 5 minutes to 10 I IM'd him to say I was running about 5 minutes late. At 10:08 he IM'd me to say that he had just woken up and would be 30 minutes late.
I told him not to bother showing up.
I've given him endless chances to show up and he always has an excuse about why he didn't show up. I IM'd similar to him today and he said it was an explanation, not an excuse. I rolled my eyes at that. If it had been the first or second time, sure - fine. But after this many times? Whatever. That unhealthy relationship is now ended, not to be re-opened.
And since I know he reads this site, this is for him: any comments you make on this post will be summarily destroyed, and I will ban you. Have a nice life.
And, because I believe ending on positive notes - tomorrow afternoon, on or around 3:30pm, I go to pick up Elka - my new puppy. She's a 4 month old German Shepherd mix that I adopted on Friday. I had to leave her at the shelter as she was not spayed and they won't release unaltered animals. Tomorrow morning she'll be spayed and I'll pick her up in the afternoon. I already have a vet appointment for her Thursday, as well as an introduction plan for her and the cats which includes an already-purchased crate that the cats have each snuggled.

That is the picture of her from Petfinder. and really doesn't do her justice at all - and yea, her eyes are not those colors. Elka is marked, on Petfinder, as having special needs and needing no kids. Well, I hadn't gone to see her because of those notes. When we stopped at Bonnie Hayes, Elka was the last dog I saw and I hadn't even remembered seeing her on Petfinder! She is utterly gorgeous, and so sweet. I asked if I could meet her, filled out an application, and got to play with her for about 30-40 minutes, and thus found out that her needing no kids was her special need - why, you may ask? She's a normal, super-de-duper boisterous large German Shepherd puppy. I've no idea what she's mixed with, but she has an incredible amount of energy and is, in a word: bouncy. As in she almost knocked me over.
But she's also incredibly smart - I had her recalling several times just in that short time-frame. She'll get over those bad manners fast. Furthermore, they temperament tested her - in front of me - with a cat. She was incredibly curious, but she did not lunge, growl, bark, or attempt to bite the cat. She was over-eager, but she didn't appear to have a strong prey drive - or a prey drive at all. She needs manner, and she'll need to learn how to calm down. But she was just a ball of joy, energy, and fun. No fear at all - completely outgoing and boisterous. In a word?
Perfect
Pictures will come when I get her, she'll have to be kept quiet post-spaying or she'll rip the stitches. That'll be the most challenging part because I'll want to play, too. =)
On a side-note: the shelter named her Elka, and that reminds me a great deal of Odin - an Elkhound. I've decided that, like the Eucalyptus tree in my backyard, it's some sort of crazy sign. She'll keep the name Elka, and I'll call her Ell for short.
If you think that I talk about the cats a lot? Get ready for a complete puppy inundation - if you don't like it, well... too bad? =)
I hope you got to see my comment before it disappeared about a dog I had called Elkie who I named from Elsknan Min (my beloved). I bet you are up to your ears in dog and cats at the moment - I hope that they are bonding okay. Is Mali continuing the good progress?
