So, I did it. For the first month, I'll be seeing the trainer 3 times a week. After that, it will be once a week. Still doing cardio 5 days a week (not with a trainer); the trainer is mostly to help with the weight portion of the routine as well as making sure I stay on track and motivated, and keep going.
A year of this is costing less than a new Macbook would cost; and my health far exceeds the value of a new Macbook, as far as I'm concerned.
I did the assessment today, he said I did good; no complaining, worked with him. I spoke to the manager as well, who hooked me up with the training, and made sure that the trainer had a style that will match mine: no name calling, no humiliation, no being an ass - just supportive and knowledgeable. It'll work out well, I think. If I don't like the trainer, I can try another one; I'm not bound to a particular trainer or even to this gym.
I'm psyched, and a bit apprehensive. I've made a real commitment to something I've never been able to stick with before.
