On illness and kindness.

I try to walk to classes Tuesday and Thursday, because I have 5 hours of nearly non-stop classes, except for a 50 minute lunch break, it doesn't make sense to drive and pay for parking, etc. Plus, I pay high rent so that I'm close enough to walk.

On my way, after nearly slipping on ice like 5 times (FUCK YOU NORTHAMPTON, more upkeep on public walkways, PLEASE) I ran into my professor for the History of Rock. Now, because I was sick for nearly two weeks I missed as many classes as I attended. This came at the beginning of the semester and was an awful, awful first impression. Plus because it was during the "shopping" period, there was confusion over if I was still in the class.

But he and I chatted as we walked to our destinations. He's a super cool, nice guy. He said he understood and it wasn't a problem and even told me that, since I had been so utterly sick, that if I needed a day or two extra on our upcoming paper - just to ask and I'd have it.

Now, in my experience with returning to my educational endeavours, I have encountered many wonderful professors. I've been very lucky in that. This just exemplifies what a really amazing professor is like - they really want us to learn and to do well, professors don't want to fail people, and if you can just take a moment to step aside and chat with them, most of the time - the outcome is going to be positive.

I'm better now, still some congestion and breathing problems, but I can move, I have energy, I can think, and I'm sleeping somewhat decently. I have a few papers coming up so thank goodness I'm on the road to recovery, eh?

And thank goodness for amazing, understanding professors.

Why bother using municipal funds to de-ice the walkways? They’re going to be bought out and turned into superfluous buildings by Smith soon enough. ;P

The ones on South Street??!?!

Green Street was safe to walk on, at least…. ;)

But I’m sure there’s something in a shade of grey…
Something in between…

Oh, and outside Forbes is also an experience in sliding.

It’s actually quite dangerous.

I haven’t been visiting anyone much recently and you’re the second today who has been sick.  Your prof sounds great.  Where I supervise exams the professors always come round at the beginning of the exam to check everyone is okay.

Look after yourself
