On friendships and roots.

When I moved to Oregon, I didn't know if it would stick. I chose Oregon because it was close to Seattle, California. It gave me ways to move if I didn't like it.

But I love Oregon, so I decided to put down roots.

Putting down those roots, and a misjudgment, nearly lost me two of my friends. But we're slowly recovering, or it feels that way anyway.

It has taken me a long time to come out of the shell that I went into during Smith. I've recently been trying to rekindle some of the friendships that started off here in Oregon. One of those friendships lead, on Halloween, to a possible new set of friends. Maybe not, too early to tell. But Halloween I went out and hung out with these folks (then came home when they went to a bar). Then Sunday I went and hung out with them again, and was encouraged to keep hanging out.

They know I'm a hermit, and they've been already able to accept that. I don't want to squander this opportunity.

I've rekindled a few other friendships that I had almost lost due to my own disappearing acts. My house is coming together, and the roots seem to be starting to flourish. It's a good time for me, really. I have a great job, great friends far and wide, and I have, again, hope that I can also maintain some semblance of a social life.

Like I said just tonight: I'll never be the type to go out every night, or even every weekend.

But that's ok. Somewhere in between is right for me, and hopefully for those that I befriend.

Dad will be here this weekend, and mom will be here over Thanksgiving. Expect me to be quiet as Wrath of the Lich King releases. Orycon is the 21st to the 23rd, and Elka will be boarded that Friday to Monday so that I don't have to worry about her. Mom arrives the evening of the 23rd so I miss what was my favorite part of Orycon last year; but that is ok. Family first.

To those of my friends spread out around the globe: if you want to make your way to Oregon, can deal with 2 cats and an adolescent canine, then catch up with me. I have a lot of space and would welcome visitors.

Sounds like things are coming together nicely for you.  One day I hope to visit my blogging friends in the US.  It will be a logn trip with so many to see!
