I have wanted a DSLR for a long time now but couldn't really justify it. But now, with the amount of pictures I take of the tank, of Elka, of the cats, and of other things I'd like to get into, I decided it was time.
So, I purchased the Canon Rebel XSi. I spent a long time considering this - was debating between the Nikon 60d or 80d, and the XSi. These were all around the price point I wanted to be at, that being the entry level DSLR price point and had versions with lens kits. Ultimately I want to invest in a Telephoto lens and a wide-angle lens as well. SLRs of any variety are new to me, though, so I'm pretty damn excited.
The way I figure it is this - when I wanted to take pictures, I carried a camera. Otherwise, I had my phone for quick pictures. Now I can just carry a better camera and take better pictures. I don't mind having this baby slung over a shoulder, and it'll be fantastic to be able to take better pictures, and in RAW, again. I miss RAW. Also, the speed is awesome, so I should be able to get better in-motion shots of Elka, or the cats playing, or the tank once I have fast-moving fish in there. I'll also play with some more still photography and try to improve my skills.
Will be fun!
