More packing goodness.

Today I packed a trunk of "stuff" into one box and one garbage bag. The garbage bag has technological goodies such as keyboards, mice, and telephones thta I haven't used/liked or whatever; those will be going with my father as he expressed an interest in having them.

I'm at the stage, right now, where I'm moving things from containers to boxes. I have, for instance, 4 "under the bed" plastic storage containers which are not suitable for moving their current state (they don't stay closed) and one gigantic plastic bin that the mover said I can keep everything in. I am a bit annoyed as I had her over to do the estimate quite a few weeks after I started packing and found out I could have left my clothing in the chest of drawers. That would have saved me 2 boxes which I could be using for other stuff, not to mention saved me unpacking stuff. Only clothing can go in there so some will be in there, but not much, alas. Lesson learned.

1 of those plastic bins that I previously mentioned has more "technological goodies" which I will go through and decide what to keep and what to give to dad. Two others have textbooks - loads of textbooks. For those I have saved several boxes that I got from the local liquor store - nice and and strong boxes that are also small, and so are going to self-control what is in them and their eventual weight.

The entire move is based on pounds toted. The estimator said 3500lbs and said that is usually 10-15% over the actual weight. Around Monday or Tuesday I'll find out the actual weight. They weigh the truck before they get my stuff then right after, just the lady isn't in the office until Monday. At that point I will know how much this move is costing me.

Right now it's utterly pouring out. Tomorrow, if it's nice, I hope to post on Freecycle several items that I am giving away, including:

  • 2 plastic cat carriers
  • 1 trunk 4 plastic "under-bed" bins.

Sometime this week I will also dismantle the aquarium, though I'll need to wait for Chris to assist me getting it outside to put on Freecycle. Or I could have people come over to take it away.

There will be more that I'll be giving away in this manner, but I think that's a good start and will get me more space to put boxes in here.

Nrrr. I'm kind of tired of this whole thing, and there is still three weeks until I move. We booked Chris' flight from STL to BDL last night. He arrived the Monday before the movers - so the 30th, at midnight. That will give us 3 full days to finalize the packing before everything is taken away. My hope is that by Thursday night there will be nothing left in this apartment that needs doing except for them coming to take stuff. My parents come up the weekend before that (the 28th) and will be taking a bunch of stuff home with them.

I am still waiting on a call-back form my landlord, I need to call my mover tomorrow about a change in plans in regards to the television - which would cost me $700 to move, and so my father is taking, but which means I want to take my behemoth of a glass table as I'll use it for the new television I'll be purchasing on the other end of this journey. Which reminds me, this gorgeous coffee table that Christie put together for me will be on Freecycle as well. It served me well for two years, but it is somewhat heavy and would cost more than its value to move.

It is now less than three weeks until I will be in my new apartment. By this time I will have my new car, as well, and have spent my first night there.

I am utterly psyched.
