So last night I fasted and this morning I went in for a quick blood test. 6 minutes later I had the results. This was for cholesterol and diabetes.
So, in short, these are bad results. Some of the cholesterol is genetic, but the diabetes is almost purely weight and diet. He sent a referral to a dietitian, along with my test results - the dietitian will be covered by my medical insurance.
Today I bought a Polar F11 heart rate monitor; this evening I swam - I maintained the top range of my target heart rate for 29 minutes. Then I sat in the hot tub, then I sauna'd. Now I'm drinking water and actually feeling tired. Tomorrow I'll make an appointment with the dietitian.
The bad diet, the lack of exercise, it all stops here and now; or I seriously will be facing some serious complications in a few years. This was a real wake-up call, and the danger is simply far too close to continue on this way. If I want to live, I have to fix this.
The fixing has already begun.
Wish these had been better results, Lisa. :( I have no doubt, though, that you can’ beat all of that & get back to where you need to be. Much success and luck to you, my friend…
Don’t be too hard on yourself, you have responded in a positive way that will improve your overall health and well-being.
I thought you might be interested to know that I’ve been controlling my blood sugar levels by careful eating for over two years now. i never feel as if I’m depriving myself and It’s facinating to observe how what I eat affects my body
it’s also great when my doctor praises me for doing so well on my own!
*grins* I’m definitely looking forward to the praise; and that’s great! I didn’t know you were doing that; thank you for sharing. It’s a relief that you can do this, and not feel starving constantly as well. =)
But I’m sure there’s something in a shade of grey…
Something in between…
