Mali is not a candidate for a transplant…

... because she is doing too well. 20% of cats die during the operation (let's not talk about the 1 month and 6 month death rates either); so they want the cat to be showing serious issues. By that they mean her creatinin level has to be above 4 (which is bad, by the way) even with treatment. But if she can be medically stabilized, then they don't want to treat her.

She can be medically stabilized.

So today she comes off the mteronidazole and ursodiol; with tests in a month to see how she's doing. Those are for her liver so hopefully her liver will be stable. I think, ultimately, the goal is to get her on Azodyl to help her kidneys. Her appetite has been amazing, so we're also going to try to get her on the special kidney food, which she wouldn't eat before. But if she still won't, she'll get whatever she needs to maintain her body mass.

Wish us luck, last time we tried such weaning she crashed again. If we can get her off the majority of medications and stable, she may yet live a long, happy life - with medical support (she'll always need daily fluids) - but long (not to 20 years old, but who knows how long?), healthy, and happy.

I’m glad to hear Mali is doing so well. I know you were somewhat afraid that the move might not be the best for her, but so far she seems to be doing incredibly well. I look forward to further info.
