Last week’s nightmare.

Last week should just be erased.

Everything that could go wrong, did go wrong, honestly. It started out with a really poor decision by myself on Sunday, and bad stuff just kept heaping onto the pile.

There were some high points. Elka proved that we do training at home. See, we have Wednesday puppy classes. We had two competitions this week. The first one was to have the puppy stay and see who could walk around their puppy the most times. I was able to walk around Elka many times; but only needed to do it once - no one else could even take a step without the dog moving. I did hear one of the pair of people there ask the other, "did you work on that this week?" and the answer was, of course, no.

What's the point of obedience training if you're not going to practice? Dogs don't magically get it.

Anyway, Elka stays pretty well even with some distractions. The ultimate will be at the dog park with many distractions - we're way off that for now, though.

We don't learn "heel" in this particular class, but I have been working on it with Elka on our walks, and she's getting it. I don't think she'll ever be an off-leash dog, but I'll be able to keep her under control at my side eventually, no matter what. That's awesome.

The other competition we had was doggy push-ups. Have the pup sit, then have them drop, sit, drop sit as many times as possible. We quit at 9 because I was sick of leaning over and was sure we could have gone on forever. Another dog did 7 but the trainer let that dog have the prize, since I had already won one.

I may be a bit too competitive.

On that note, I found out where to do puppy agility and going to sign up for that. Should be a blast, though it's a bit of a drive from here. Will do Elka good to go on slightly longer drives.

So yes, the week sucked, and the puppy was the high point (as well as the low point, we had a nipping incident.) The long weekend should let things settle down and I'm going to do my darnedest to not work, and to just relax.

Oh, BTW - Wii Fit? Awesome.
