It just occurred to me..

... that in slightly over a month I will be a mere 3 hour drive from Seattle, where I have at least 3 friends. J I haven't seen since before Australia, E since right after, and a different J in about two years. Not only that, but I will be within a reasonable distance to see them regularly.

I will be a 2 minute walk from C & W - C who I have been friends with for 6 years? 7 years? And W, who I have hung out with online and look forward to befriending.

I will be a short, cheap flight from San Francisco which means I get to see T and G.

I wish I would be a bit closer to K, N & R, though, but they're in NM .5 hour flight with a stopover. Hrm ponders

I'm so excited. I wish I could move today.

As a further edit.

At the same time that I look forward to this move, I also know that I am leaving behind friendships (that I had isolated myself from about a year ago, anyway) which I actually did enjoy and that saddens me. I was a terrible friend in this instance, both awkward and separated.

I will also be much, much more distant, geography-wise, from my family. While my parents can visit me, I will have to come home to visit Hannah. That is painful for me, but it is ever so much closer than Canberra was.

I will also be more distant from friends in NY that I haven't seen in a long time, including J, and any potential chance to hookup with D, T, and D. I long ago lost contact with A but I believe he moved to the West coast, so maybe I can find him again, as he found me a few years ago. That would rock.

Yet, having lived overseas for 6 years, with no goodbye and no planning, this is far less distant; but with age comes fear - risk seems much scarier and while it is not more permanent - it feels that way.

Always two sides to a story, and usually more. This story is just beginning....

It sounds like the Portland area was definitely the right place for you to move to. Seems like everything is working out in a good way for you lisa

My really cool ex Lisa is also moving to the Portland area very shortly, actually. Very strange… Remind me to introduce you two or something; you just might get along.

I think so, Tiayr - and I’m just renting, changing my mind, as long as I stay on the West coast (pretty much a sure thing) isn’t too costly.

J!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hi =) Well, that would rock, and you’re always welcome (once I’m settled in) to come visit. I have a two bedroom, so the second room is a guest room/office, and will have a very comfortable queen sized futon - so you and your honey can come on down if you want.

I said “honey”.

I like that “really cool ex Lisa” - just no hooking me up with any psycho chickies, k? ;)

But I’m sure there’s something in a shade of grey…
Something in between…

You already have a standing invitation, smarty-pants.
