Following on from this post, if you think I should try living in Seattle - what district, or where? Things I like:
Remember, rush-hour traffic is not a huge concern, I work from home.
I hope I get some feedback on this one!
Sounds like there are three neighborhoods in Seattle that you can reasonably consider:
Capitol Hill (where I live)
Pros: Coffee Shops, Independent Films, Large goth/punk crowd, Gay district
Cons: Frequently loud on weekends, large homeless population, Yuppie central
Notes: The 15th street part of Capitol Hill is probably more to your taste: less weeekend crowd, fewer homeless, quieter. Still lots of coffee shops. Less punky/funky than the Broadway part of Capitol Hill, though.
Fremont
Pros: Coffee Shops, Lots of wireless, Arty District
Cons: Yuppie Central, even more so than Cap Hill
Ballard
Pros: Coffee Shops, Quiet places, best farmer’s market in town (year-round)
Cons: Yuppie Central, Hipster Central
Come up to Seattle, I’ll introduce you to the neighborhoods…
Exactly the kind of information I was looking for. Thank you, sir. =)
But I’m sure there’s something in a shade of grey…
Something in between…
Oh, I forgot:
West Seattle
Pros: Cheaper, more interesting (sometimes)
Cons: Farther Away, less culture (maybe)
Notes: Honestly I haven’t spent a whole lot of time in West Seattle, but it occurs to me that you might want to consider it. Also, the U District and Greenwood are worth considering, though the former is probably too loud and the latter too urban for you.
Jon, are you familiar with The Marq? Seems to be a lot of rentals available there that include parking. I’m kind of torn. When I first posted this I hadn’t seen this gorgeous little house I fell in love with. I may be roping some friends into driving with me up to Seattle in 2 weeks. Depending on this house, the situation may become a bit more urgent for a decision. ;)

I’m not familiar with The Marq, specifically, but it looks to me like pretty much every other condo in the neighborhood.
That part of Cap Hill is slightly closer to downtown proper—a little less shopping, a little fewer coffee shops in a 3-block radius, but lots of stuff in a 5-block walk.
